Dr. Davis is an assistant Professor of Education and Director of the Center for Gifted Education at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. At UL, Lafayette Davis teaches undergraduate & graduate courses in Diversity Education & Gifted Education. Davis is a career educator, serving as a teacher, local district gifted education coordinator, principal at a specialized high school for gifted learners and eventually served for five years as State Specialist for Gifted Programs, K-12 for the Commonwealth of Virginia. Davis currently serves as Co-Chair of the NAGC’s Diversity & Equity Committee and recently led the a small team of colleagues in the writing of an NAGC position paper on Identifying and Serving Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Gifted Learners. Dr. Davis is a fervent advocate for enhancing services for culturally and linguistically gifted learners across the nation, including those who are low income, African American, Hispanic, first generation immigrant, rural, ESL and others who have traditionally been underserved in gifted and advanced learner programs. A graduate of the masters and doctoral programs in Gifted Education from The College of William & Mary in Virginia, Dr Davis is a frequently sought-out expert in the area of diversity in gifted education and has provided workshops and other consultation services to school districts, organizations, and universities across the nation, in the Caribbean, and South Africa.
